UGH!!! Let’s start with the worst first! This morning I sat down at my desk and set down a full, steaming cup of coffee, apparently partly on the desk and partly hanging over the edge to defy the laws of gravity. And then gravity won. BLAM, SPLATTER, SCREAMS… Because, you know, white carpeting in my studio that is brand new from just a year ago. After blotting and water rinsing and blotting some more as best as I could, I spent the rest of the morning tidying up my studio in preparation for Stanley Steemer’s arrival with the giant carpet cleaning contraption. If I’m being honest, the clutter was the culprit to begin with — too many stacks of papers and fabric swatches and sewing tools and notebooks on too small of a desk did not leave much room for cups of coffee or anything else.
By the time the carpet cleaners arrived at 2 pm, I had most of the room cleaned up with the chairs and rolling carts moved out of the room and was just working on folding and putting away mountains of fabric on my worktable. I did stop to finalize my fabric picks for those next three Stonefields sampler quilt blocks. The pile on the left is the one I’ve already started stitching, with the dotted background fabric and the orange plus sign pieced into the Tilda print:

I’ve decided that I can’t just pile up more and more fabric on the worktable for Stonefields because, duh, that prevents me from working on anything else in between these fiddly little blocks! Now that I’ve picked the fabrics for the next three blocks, which should keep me busy for at least a couple weeks, a clean worktable will allow me to piece that Scrappy Celebrations backing, right? At least that’s the plan.
I apologize for the enormous file size of today’s photos, by the way. I can’t resize them on my iPad the same way I normally do on my desktop computer, and I don’t like how the Blogger app is annoyingly different on my iPad, too. Sadly, I have to stay out of my studio tonight and can’t even put my desk chair back until morning because the carpet is still wet. The guy from Stanley Steemer said he didn’t get the stain out completely, which is annoying, but it has to be better than it was, right? My husband will say something snarky about how he told me white carpet was a bad idea, but it’s not like I was going to choose chocolate brown carpet instead just to disguise spills. Anyone have a favorite miracle carpet stain remover that works even better than the commercial carpet cleaners’ stuff? Let me know in the comments, please!

I'm afraid I don't have any miracle cures. Sounds like you did everything right after that coffee spill, so hopefully it'll look OK now that Stanley has done his work. Your rosette is perfection as usual, and so are your Stonefields' fabrics! I've got stuff to put away in my studio as well. When I was piecing the Stonefields blocks, I had a small designated table set aside with their fabrics, just for them! That way I could keep the fabric in sight but separate from the rest of the clutter. It works for me. I actually have several small tables set up in my studio with separate projects on. When I helped my grandson make his pillowcase this summer, I had to remove fabrics from the cutting table. I told him I don't have enough table space. He looked around then said but Grandma, you have 7 tables! I assume he was including the cutting table in that. Happy stitching!
So sorry to hear about a spill on relatively new carpeting. It's one of several reasons we replaced carpeting with wood laminate. I like the ease of cleaning the floor, especially when I see the dust bunnies (thread and fabric fibers) sucked into the vacuum. I read your comment on Michelle's blog post, about not using a longarm quilter, to save money and for pride in one's project. I agree 100 percent, and is why I have quilted ALL my quilts since 2001 - a vow I made to myself to justify the purchase of a lovely new Bernina. I've kept that vow. It's nice to see the projects you're working on. I always admire EPP, though I'm personally "over it" after completing two large quilts! Ha!
My studio is in the basement on concrete slab. I chose carpet because it’s easier on my back if I am standing for hours at my cutting table or at the long arm machine. Also because I have had to replace a bobbin case once after dropping it on a hard surface floor and denting it. It was annoying trying to figure out why I was having machine trouble all of a sudden, then having to wait for the part to come in and pay for it. I still drop my long arm bobbin case on the floor sometimes because of my butterfingers, but it doesn’t get damaged when it lands on soft carpet. Oh, and sometimes I still get down on my hands and knees on the floor with big backings or drapery panels and my knees need the soft carpet for that!
Ouch to the coffee spill but it happens! Once the carpet dries the stain will probably (hopefully?) be less noticible. That said the fbric celection is beautiful so good you can make some choices that will "fund" the work for a frew weeks and make room for other projects. Ahhh, productive quilting is all about being able to juggle!!
That sucks!!! I use oxiclean and then I have my own steam cleaner - but I am not sure that works better than a commercial one... Maybe it will be better when it is dry? I am so sorry - that is a sucky start to your day!!!!
